Final Fantasy Resonance launches October 22 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Square Enix has revealed review scores from major outlets, and the reception is widely positive across all versions.
According to Adrenaline, the game averaged 85 points on OpenCritic with a 90% recommendation rate among critics. PC reviews are notably higher, averaging 89 points, while PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions score 85, with Switch 2 tracking similarly.
The title is a complete overhaul of the now-defunct mobile gacha game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, originally released in 2015. Square Enix stripped away all free-to-play mechanics and reimagined it as a classic turn-based RPG with HD-2D visuals. The story follows Rain, Lasswell, and the amnesiac Fina on a globe-trotting quest through Lapis to stop the Sworn Six of Paladia from destroying the world's crystals.
As noted by Nintendo Life, Resonance serves as a throwback to earlier Final Fantasy entries, weaving in characters and locations that echo the series' legacy. For players who have grown weary of the franchise's recent shift toward real-time action combat, the game represents a significant return to turn-based tradition.
