Dirge of Cerberus: Lost Episode, a mobile game released in 2004 as a midquel to the polarizing Dirge of Cerberus, had been unplayable and inaccessible for years. According to Time Extension, video game preservationist Yuvi obtained the rare title's data with assistance from Naoya Shinota, a member of the Keitai Wiki mobile phone preservation group.
The title was a spin-off that squeezed the shooter gameplay of the original Dirge of Cerberus onto a mobile phone, offering more time with the brooding character Vincent Valentine. While part of the Final Fantasy 7 compilation, it remains one of the franchise's lesser-known entries and historically received lukewarm reception.
The preservation effort cost the preservationist over 900 dollars. With the recovery complete, the game can now be studied and maintained for future access, underscoring the critical work of groups dedicated to preserving abandoned or delisted titles.
