Nintendo posted a seven-minute Creator's Voice video featuring the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive Orbitals, a co-op adventure from Shapefarm. The video includes interviews with creative director Marcos Ramos, key animator Hidetoshi Yoshida, and game director Jakob Lundgren discussing the game's development and art direction.
According to Siliconera, Ramos shared that the team decided to "work on an anime game" early in development, drawing inspiration from 1980s cartoons he watched growing up. The art style reflects the visual language of that era, particularly in its use of line art and character design.
Yoshida, with over 40 years in the industry specializing in hand-drawn animation, emphasized the importance of character authenticity. In the video, he noted that "if the characters themselves aren't interesting the entire work won't be interesting," which is why he focused on acting and facial expressions.
Orbitals remains in development for Switch 2 with no release date announced yet.
