Phantom Blade Zero pre-orders live, Donnie Yen revealed as creative consultant

Action legend Donnie Yen has been working behind the scenes on Phantom Blade Zero since 2023, the developers confirmed today. According to the PlayStation Blog, Yen served as a creative consultant, lending his extensive martial arts and action filmmaking expertise to the game's combat and action design. He also provided motion capture and likeness for Mó Yuan, the father of protagonist Soul.

Pre-orders for the game are now live on PlayStation 5 and PC, priced at $59.99 for the standard edition. A Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 and includes outfit and accessory unlocks, a digital artbook, and soundtrack. The game launches on October 28.

S-Game announced a dedicated State of Play broadcast for August 17 at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET. According to Sony, the presentation will showcase approximately 20 minutes of fresh gameplay diving deeper into combat systems, mechanics, and the world of the action RPG. An 11-minute gameplay trailer premiered today to coincide with pre-orders opening.

Phantom Blade Zero blends wuxia narrative with action built on Unreal Engine 5, tasking players as Soul with just 66 days to defeat assassins, uncover conspiracies, and defend their values. Yen's involvement in combat design marks his first video game role since the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation project.
