The Sinking City 2 launches today as survival horror

The Sinking City 2 is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The sequel to Frogwares' 2019 game is a survival horror set in an otherworldly 1920s version of Arkham, a city ravaged by floods where inhabitants contend with eldritch horrors.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the Ukrainian studio reshaped the formula of the original. While the first game was an open-world detective adventure with horror at its edges, the sequel places exploration, combat and survival at the forefront while maintaining Lovecraftian atmosphere throughout.

Per Xbox Wire, the developers expanded the investigative foundation of the first game to emphasize pacing and combat. The Mind Palace, a mechanic that links clues to form conclusions, remains but now shares focus with combat sequences and environmental puzzles in a semi-open world.

According to Push Square, the shift represents a bold move: the studio is known primarily for its investigative systems in Sherlock Holmes games and the original The Sinking City. Early reviews from gaming media indicate the sequel improves upon the execution of the first game, though it retains qualities of an ambitious but flawed title.
