Supermassive Games has confirmed it will begin a redundancy consultation process affecting up to 75 employees. According to IGN, this marks the studio's third round of job losses in three years.
In a statement posted to social media, the developer described the move as a "necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company." Supermassive said its priority will be to "provide support to all those impacted" throughout the consultation process.
The UK-based studio is known for narrative-driven horror games including Until Dawn (2015), The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures Anthology series. Its most recent release was Directive 8020, which received mixed reception from players.
The layoffs reflect broader economic pressures across the industry: multiple developers faced staff reductions in 2024 and 2025, including Double Fine and studios under major publishers. Supermassive did not publicly detail specific reasons beyond the company's sustainability.
