Bethesda Game Studios has warned players of Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim about an incoming update centered on general Creations system improvements. According to PC Gamer, the publisher is recommending that players log into a save or manually back up their mod load order ahead of the patch installation.
The warning is necessary because previous Fallout 4 updates have caused major issues. The 2024 "next gen" update broke numerous mods without delivering noticeable improvements, prompting the community to create a Downgrader Tool to roll back the changes. A year later, Bethesda repeated the pattern with another update that damaged additional mods.
This is a recurring pattern: Bethesda frequently releases patches that create incompatibilities with fan-made modifications, a crucial part of the Fallout 4 and Skyrim experience on PC. The advance warning reflects this history of complications between official updates and the modding community ecosystem.
