Arc Raiders is getting a pure PvE mode test running from October 13 through October 20. According to executive producer Aleksander Grøndal, the test is crucial for answering a question the team has had since launch.
Originally, Arc Raiders was developed as a purely PvE game focused on fighting giant robots. The shift to a hybrid PvPvE model happened late in development. Now, returning to pure PvE represents a considerable risk to the game's current structure.
Grøndal says the team is even considering eventually splitting Arc Raiders into two separate versions, one for PvE and one for PvP. "It's very possible," the executive producer told GamesRadar about a potential split. The test will serve as a proof-of-concept to gauge whether there is demand and viability for such a division.
The announcement comes after the success of the Frozen Trail update, which introduced a new map (Pendola Pass), a grappling hook, and numerous new enemies and quests, pushing Arc Raiders to exceed 130,000 concurrent players on Steam for the first time since April.
