Persona producer says 1 and 2 remakes need to happen

During an interview with GamerBraves, Kazuhisa Wada, producer of P-Studio at Atlus, discussed the future of Persona 1 and 2 remakes. According to IGN, Wada stated he "can't say for sure" if the remakes will happen, but personally thinks "we have to do it."

Both PS1-era games have been largely overlooked while Atlus actively pushed Persona 3, 4, and 5. Per PC Gamer, Persona 3 has received recent remakes and ports, Persona 4 is getting a new remake with Persona 4 Revival, and Persona 5 continues to spawn spin-offs and expansions, leaving the oldest entries effectively dormant.

Wada brings decades of experience with the Persona series and its Shin Megami Tensei roots. According to GamesRadar, he led both Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal, and is expected to be involved with Persona 6. His remarks suggest internal awareness of the need to modernize the first two games, but no official development has been announced.

Wada is currently focused on Persona 4 Revival, which is approaching launch. His comment leaves open whether remakes of 1 and 2 will eventually enter Atlus' development pipeline after current projects wrap.
