CD Projekt Red has confirmed layoffs affecting Project Sirius, the multiplayer The Witcher spin-off in development. According to PC Gamer, nine people were terminated: four based in Boston and five in Warsaw. Nine additional employees were invited to apply for roles on other CD Projekt Red projects.
In a statement to IGN, the studio said it had "adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project's needs at this stage of development." The company described the moves as part of a "broader shift in development strategy."
Project Sirius has a troubled internal history. Announced in 2021 following CD Projekt's acquisition of The Molasses Flood, the project has faced repeated setbacks. In 2023, the studio already cut more than 25 staff from the team. Since then, the project has undergone multiple overhauls and scope changes.
The title remains largely under wraps. Beyond confirmation of its multiplayer nature within The Witcher universe, little official detail exists, leaving unclear how long the project will need to regain momentum after the latest cuts.
