Aliens: Fireteam Elite no longer playable on Switch

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is no longer playable on Nintendo Switch. According to Nintendo Life, the game has been delisted from the eShop and its servers have been shut down, making the title completely inaccessible to anyone who purchased it.

The game launched on Switch in April 2023 exclusively as a cloud version, since its file size made local installation impossible on the console. As reported by Adrenaline, players who paid up to $30 for the standard edition or up to $60 for the Ultimate edition (which included DLC access) can now access nothing they bought.

Because it relied entirely on remote server infrastructure to function, the server shutdown rendered the game solely inaccessible. No offline mode option was provided, and no refund program was offered to owners. Per GamesRadar, this situation reignites discussions about the unsustainable practices of the digital videogame market.
