1666: Amsterdam enters early access on August 25

1666: Amsterdam, a supernatural action-adventure by Patrice Désilets, will launch in early access on August 25 for PC, as confirmed through hands-on previews with major gaming outlets. Désilets, the original creator of Assassin's Creed, developed the title at indie studio Panache Digital Games following a 15-year journey marked by legal battles with Ubisoft over the project's rights.

The game follows protagonist Noa through 17th-century Amsterdam, armed with a broomstick as a melee weapon and accompanied by a time-traveling cat companion named Aaron. According to GamesRadar and other preview outlets, the experience blends third-person action with stealth and investigation, featuring a roguelike-inspired ability system tied to jewelry box coffers. When players die during a mission, those collected abilities reset, forcing different approaches on each retry.

Combat is designed to feel "like dancing," Désilets told journalists, removing parry mechanics and emphasizing rhythmic dodging instead. Previews from Eurogamer, PC Gamer, Destructoid, and GamesRadar highlighted the game's historical accuracy of its Amsterdam setting and its distinctive supernatural atmosphere outside conventional open-world design.

Désilets also reaffirmed a commitment to removing all AI-generated assets following backlash over AI-painted artwork spotted in the Summer Game Fest demo. The developer stated such content will not appear in the final product.
