Gears of War: E-Day patch addresses split-screen error before full launch

Gears of War: E-Day receives its first patch ahead of the game's full launch on October 6. According to GameSpot, the update was developed after The Coalition identified several issues through early access players.

The patch targets stability and performance across the campaign, multiplayer, and Horde Siege modes. A major fix addresses the "Bilefrog-Kalona" error, a split-screen multiplayer issue that triggered when a player was automatically signed out of online services after the console or PC was suspended, then attempted to use Quick Resume to jump back in.

The Coalition assigned Gears-themed names to its network errors. The "Bilefrog" references the massive subterranean Locust frogs encountered throughout the campaign, which attack players by vomiting stomach acid.

The game launched into Premium Advanced Access on October 1 for Xbox Series X/S and PC Game Pass, with the full Standard Edition and Game Pass release scheduled for October 6.
