Modern Warfare 4 beta launches with campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone access

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 begins its open beta starting August 21, with the first testing window running through August 25, followed by a second weekend from August 28 to September 1, according to Activision. The beta is the franchise's largest to date in scope, available to players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

For the first time in Call of Duty history, the beta includes a full campaign mission called Entrenched. Players will also access multiplayer and an exclusive Warzone map named Zodiac. The modular multiplayer map Kill Block, which shifts its structure during matches, rounds out the playable content.

Anyone who participates in either beta weekend will unlock free rewards for the full game, launching October 23. The progression is cumulative across both testing periods. According to Destructoid, players earn cosmetic items and other bonuses simply by investing time in the beta.

The beta's timing overlaps with a free trial of Battlefield 6 running through August 25, which marks the arrival of Season 4's mid-season update featuring the classic Wake Island map and a Top Gun crossover. Both major FPS franchises are competing for player attention this weekend.
