Double Fine Productions has confirmed it has regained the intellectual property and publishing rights for every game it released during its seven years under Microsoft. The confirmation came from CEO Tim Schafer during a conversation with Kinda Funny Games, according to IGN.
With independence restored following Xbox's major restructure earlier this year, the studio announced the return of Amnesia Fortnight, its iconic two-week game jam. The event, titled "Amnesia Fortnight 2026 - Indie Reboot: A Double Fine Productions Game Jam, Documentary and Kickstarter Campaign," will launch on Kickstarter on August 31st. The twist: fans will be able to vote on which game concept Double Fine should develop during the jam period.
Schafer clarified that sales of Double Fine's previous titles now directly benefit the studio, as it has reclaimed publishing rights. "The transfer of the IP came back to us, and we get the publishing rights back to all our games," he said, according to IGN.
Amnesia Fortnight marks Double Fine's return to one of its most beloved traditions, which hasn't happened since 2019. The initiative combines a game jam, a documentary about the creative process, and a crowdfunding campaign, solidifying the studio's new independent model.
