Fortnite's Override season, launching on August 20, marks the first time an entire season is dedicated to collaborations with gaming franchises. According to Epic Games, the central theme is the world of video games, bringing together classic and modern characters from different eras.
Confirmed crossovers include Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow, Joker from Persona 5, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Street Fighter characters (Ryu and Blanka), Mortal Kombat fighters (Kitana and Scorpion), Spyro, Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Blade from Honkai: Star Rail and Cyberpunk 2077. Epic Games revealed the lineup through an official trailer and social media posts, though an exact schedule for each character's arrival has not been announced.
While Sony has provided characters like Kratos and Aloy in previous Fortnite collaborations, no PlayStation characters are confirmed for Override. Unlike past one-off crossovers the battle royale has done with Resident Evil, The Witcher and Halo, this is the first time an entire season is built around gaming intellectual properties.
The announcement comes as platforms like Roblox gain traction in the gaming ecosystem, with Epic itself including a collaboration with a Roblox-created game in the Override season.
