Samson developer Liquid Swords files for bankruptcy after unpaid staff

Swedish developer Liquid Swords was declared bankrupt on October 12, as reported by Breakit. According to PC Gamer, the studio had approximately 30 employees who had gone unpaid for at least two months, and it was these staff members who petitioned for the company to be declared insolvent.

Samson was Liquid Swords' debut title, an open-world crime simulator built around a run-based structure where players control a getaway driver attempting to settle a debt. The game launched at USD 24.99, positioned as an AA-tier release.

The title faced lukewarm critical reception and significant technical issues at launch. Rock, Paper, Shotgun noted the game shipped with substantial bugs, though subsequent patches attempted to address these problems.

Liquid Swords was founded in 2020 by Christofer Sundberg, who previously co-founded Avalanche Studios, the developer behind the Just Cause series, and co-directed that franchise's first game.
