Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign launched in early access on October 16 for players who preordered the game digitally. According to GameSpot, the unlock occurred at 10 AM PT (1 PM ET) and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
This marks Call of Duty's return to Nintendo platforms after 13 years, with the last entry being Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U in 2013. Nintendo Life noted that the Switch 2 version performs well given the hardware gap between the hybrid console and competing platforms, delivering a complete and playable experience despite technical constraints.
Early reviews are praising the campaign. Pure Xbox reported that the general consensus is overwhelmingly positive, with many critics calling it the best Call of Duty campaign in years. GamesRadar highlighted that the game delivers "spectacular set pieces" that make it hard to put down and brings years of Modern Warfare storytelling to a satisfying conclusion.
The full release of Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for October 23 across all platforms. The DMZ mode, an extraction shooter returning to the franchise, will enter early access on October 20, also limited to digital preorder holders.
Infinity Ward requested players avoid spoiling the campaign, asking everyone to experience the story for themselves: "We've one one ask. Let everyone experience it for themselves. Keep the campaign spoilers under wraps."
