Insomniac held an extensive hands-on preview session with journalists for Marvel's Wolverine, less than two months ahead of the September 15 launch. The two-hour demo kicked off with the game's opening in the wilds of Telambang, where Wolverine reunites with Team X to infiltrate a facility belonging to anti-mutant industrialist Bolivar Trask.
According to the PlayStation Blog, participants experienced stealthy sections, direct combat, and boss encounters set across locations like Madripoor's Lowtown. The session showcased Insomniac's approach to story, character relationships, and Logan's buried past. Unlike the Spider-Man games, Wolverine follows a linear story-driven structure, though players can venture off the beaten path to hunt resources and tackle combat trials.
Insomniac confirmed that Wolverine's suit regenerates alongside his healing factor during battles, a deliberate design choice prioritizing gameplay experience over strict realism. Senior project director Jess Reiner-Reed told Eurogamer that the physical disc version will be fully playable without mandatory downloads, potentially making it one of PlayStation's last fully disc-based exclusives.
The studio also implemented accessibility options allowing players to disable blood and gore effects during gameplay. The decision reflects Insomniac's intention not to surprise audiences with violent content without clear warning, based on statements gathered by international outlets.
