It's official: Kingdom Hearts 4 will launch in late 2027 on all platforms, including Switch 2, Disney confirmed during the D23 Expo on Friday. Square Enix unveiled a new trailer showing the game's first world based on Pixar's Coco, where Sora travels to the Land of the Dead dressed for the Day of the Dead with a themed Keyblade.
In the trailer, Sora battles Heartless in the Coco universe alongside characters from the film. The footage also featured King Mickey, Donald, and Goofy searching to rescue the protagonist. The series will have collaboration from Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix on development.
At the same event, Disney announced Kingdom Hearts: The Series, an original anime with an entirely new story that will expand the Kingdom Hearts universe. According to IGN, the production includes the Kingdom Hearts 4 development team and Nomura, who asked fans to "let your imaginations run wild." The series arrives "coming soon" to Disney+ and Disney Channel, though no exact date has been set.
Prior to D23 announcements, Disney revealed Kingdom Hearts is one of its nine billion-dollar gaming franchises, having generated over 1 billion dollars in retail sales since its 2002 launch.
