Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls held its first major competitive tournament at CEO 2026 over the weekend. According to GamesRadar, the event brought together 1,057 entrants, making it the second-largest competition at the event behind Street Fighter 6's 1,110 participants.
SonicFox, known for dominating NetherRealm titles like Mortal Kombat and Injustice, claimed victory from Losers Top 8. The result isn't entirely shocking given that SonicFox was also a major winner in Dragon Ball FighterZ, another tag-team fighter from Arc System Works, the studio behind Marvel Tokon.
The victory stands out because it comes after SonicFox publicly criticized the game during its beta phase, stating it "needs way more work" and that "so many decisions don't make a lot of sense." When commenting on the tournament, SonicFox noted the win was "purely out of spite," responding to the backlash their critique had received.
The title has already gained attention since launch for its strong gameplay, with Eurogamer highlighting Spider-Man as one of the most powerful characters in the base roster. The game also drew praise from PC Gamer for its combo trials, described as an elegant tutorial solution that more fighting games should adopt.
