Dune: Awakening gets free expansion with frozen map in December

Funcom announced Blood and Ice, a free expansion for its survival MMO Dune: Awakening. According to Eurogamer and PC Gamer, the content launches December 1st and introduces a completely new map called the Polar Sink.

Unlike the core survival mechanic across Arrakis's deserts, the Polar Sink flips the concept: instead of avoiding extreme heat, players will actively seek it out to survive harsh cold. The map will require new technologies to adapt to the radical climate shift.

The expansion arrives after Funcom completed a major overhaul of the game, which now functions as both a solo experience and a PvE adventure, expanding gameplay options beyond the original desert planet.
