Sony released firmware update 14.22.00 for the PlayStation 5 on Tuesday, November 2, a 1.267 GB patch focused on system security fixes. According to IGN's patch notes, the update contained no detailed changelog beyond the mention of security improvements, yet GTA 6 will require this specific firmware version to run on the console.
The move continues Sony's ongoing battle with the PS5 jailbreak community. As Adrenaline reports, GTA 6 initially required firmware 14.10.00, but after hackers found workarounds, the company pushed version 14.22.00 as a stricter gate. The previous update, 14.20, launched on October 21 with vague patch notes about messaging and screen features, but was widely understood as a response to recent security breaches in the homebrew scene.
GTA 6 arrives on PlayStation 5 on November 19. Players running jailbroken systems will face a choice: update the console and lose their modifications, or skip the game.
