The producer of Final Fantasy Resonance had to persuade Square Enix's leadership to invest in a complete game rather than a stripped-down version. According to Push Square, there was resistance within the company to turn the title into a cheap port of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the discontinued mobile game that served as Resonance's foundation.
As GamesRadar explains, Resonance functions as a console adaptation of the previous mobile title, removing gacha systems and microtransactions while expanding the narrative. The approach mirrors what Octopath Traveler 0 did with its franchise. Preserving the legacy of Brave Exvius while creating a full HD-2D turn-based RPG experience was the producer's pitch.
The argument prevailed. Resonance has accumulated positive reviews from both critics and players since its October 22 launch, validating the decision not to turn the game into a simple port. The initial executive resistance stands in stark contrast to the success Resonance has become for Square Enix.
