The open beta for Gears of War: E-Day surpassed its own concurrent player record on Steam this week, pulling 22,084 simultaneous players, according to GamesRadar. This marks the second consecutive week the prequel has set a new franchise peak.
Last week, when access was limited to pre-orders and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, the beta attracted 18,000 concurrent players on Steam, already exceeding every previous Gears of War title's peak. The expansion to an open beta on both PC and Xbox Series X|S pushed the numbers higher.
The beta runs through August 17 at 10am PT on PC and Xbox consoles, free for players with Xbox Game Pass Essential or higher. The Coalition rolled out performance improvements and balance tuning for the second week, including weapon adjustments and aim assist refinements.
Gears of War: E-Day serves as a prequel exploring the early days of the Locust invasion.
