Nintendo and The Pokemon Company confirmed that Pokemon Bank, the Nintendo 3DS storage application launched in 2013, will discontinue service on February 26, 2027. According to Nintendo Life and GamesRadar, the app enabled players to deposit and transfer creatures across 3DS titles including Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun and Moon, as well as earlier games through specialized transfer methods.
The company advised users to migrate any Pokemon stored in Bank to Pokemon Home before the shutdown, as the transfer connection between the two services will cease on that date. GamesRadar notes that Bank represents the final direct route for moving Pokemon from older generations into the Switch era.
In preparation, Pokemon Home will receive updates in October 2026. FireRed and LeafGreen will be integrated with the subscription storage service, and the Premium Plan will expand capacity to 9,000 Pokemon, up 3,000 slots from the previous limit.
The closure announcement arrives near Pokemon Day on February 27, the franchise anniversary. Players have fewer than 200 days to complete migration of their collections before Bank goes offline.
