It's official: Metal Gear Solid is free to play between July 23 and 27 on Xbox and Steam, according to Xbox Wire and confirmed by gaming outlets. The promotion is part of Xbox's Free Play Days program and offers a limited-time window to try the 1998 classic.
The move serves as a warm-up for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 launch, scheduled for August. As GamesRadar reported, the free version available is the Master Collection Version, which includes the remastered game.
On Steam, the trial period expires Monday, July 27 at 10 a.m. EDT. According to PC Gamer, players keen on challenges beyond simple access can attempt to earn the Big Boss rating, the highest evaluation after completing the game, before the deadline.
Beyond Metal Gear Solid, this week's Free Play Days lineup includes titles like For Honor, Bleach Rebirth of Souls, and Tides of Tomorrow, per Xbox Wire. The promotion gives players a chance to sample classics and recent releases without financial commitment.
