Launched on Thursday, August 6, the Gears of War E-Day open beta has already delivered significant numbers for The Coalition. According to Eurogamer, the title reached a peak of 14,331 concurrent players on Steam alone, breaking the franchise's previous record on the platform.
The prior milestone was set by Gears 5, which at its height achieved just over 10,000 concurrent players on the same platform. While not quite reaching the heights of other top-tier competitive experiences, the figure marks substantial growth for the series' return to multiplayer focus.
The beta is currently available in early access only for players who pre-ordered the game and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members. A broader open beta phase for all Xbox members begins later, expanding the scope of the test. The significance of the result is underscored by the beta being exclusively multiplayer-focused, serving as validation of The Coalition's work in reshaping the franchise's gameplay.
