Ori series creator denies third game rumors

Thomas Mahler, creator of the Ori series at Moon Studios, firmly denied rumors circulating online about a third entry in the franchise. According to Eurogamer, Mahler described the speculation as "nonsense."

The rumors began after NateTheHate, an insider known in gaming communities online, suggested on forums that Xbox was preparing a surprise for Gamescom 2026, potentially revealing a new Ori game. Mahler, however, made clear that he has received no word about any such project.

The creator's denial was direct: according to VGC, Mahler stated he had spoken with people at Microsoft and completely ruled out the possibility. He also took the opportunity to comment on the importance of creative talent in established series, citing Halo as an example of a franchise that suffers when it loses its original creative vision.

For now, there is no official confirmation of a new Ori game in development. The two previous titles, Ori and the Blind Forest (2015) and Ori and the Will of the Wisps (2020), were published by Xbox Game Studios, which owns the intellectual property rights.
