Confirmed via PlayStation Blog and Xbox Wire, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis reimagines Lara Croft's first outing by blending elements from the 1996 game and 2007's Tomb Raider Anniversary into a modern experience. Hands-on time at Summer Game Fest 2026 showed players exploring Peru's Lost Valley, tackling series-defining puzzles like the iconic cog mechanism that controls a waterfall blocking deeper exploration.
According to experience director Jeff Adams at Crystal Dynamics, this is more than a remake—it's a canon continuation of the Survivor trilogy (2013-2018). "The events of the Survivor series happened, and this is the same Lara, but we're meeting her at another point in her career," he stated. The game positions Lara as an "unfettered" version of herself, moving past the reboot era.
On the character's design, the studio emphasized it wasn't attempting to appeal to either "side" of cultural debates. Adams reiterated that Lara was "100% human-crafted," unlike other game elements. Per Eurogamer and GameSpot reporting, Crystal Dynamics confirmed generative AI is used for concept art and placeholder assets, while assuring that finished content is created by the development team.
