Gears of War: E-Day may have cost $500 million, sources say

Multiple sources suggest that Gears of War: E-Day, released this year on Xbox and PC, carried a budget of around $500 million. According to Kotaku, the information comes from "a source familiar with Xbox's business," and the figure excludes marketing expenses.

The cost would place the third-person shooter among the most expensive games ever made, if confirmed. Industry journalists Chris Dring and Jez Corden weighed in on the number: Dring corroborated the figure, while Corden cautioned that his own sources cannot definitively say whether the $500 million total covers all spending categories.

Microsoft did not respond to requests for comment on the budget. The game received its third hotfix on October 22, focusing on stability, performance, and crash reduction across Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC, according to Pure Xbox.
