Fable showcases combat mechanics in gamescom 2026 demo

Playground Games gave press and content creators their first chance to play Fable at gamescom 2026, providing hands-on experience with the game's combat system. According to Xbox Wire, the demo featured a quest called 'Mud and Death' set in a haunted, flooded mine populated with ghosts and skeletons.

The combat system represents an evolution of the classic 'Strength, Skill and Will' mechanics from the original trilogy, enabling players to seamlessly switch between melee, ranged and magic options in real time. Equipment and skill choices significantly alter how combat unfolds.

Meanwhile, Fable's official Xbox page revealed the game will support up to 60 FPS on Xbox Series X with optimization for 4K Ultra HD and HDR. Pure Xbox reports indications of at least two different graphics modes available on Xbox Series S as well.

Fable remains in development and is expected to launch as an Xbox and PC exclusive in 2027.
