Capcom has confirmed it will discontinue the Deluxe Edition of Dragon's Dogma 2 and remove multiple microtransactions from the game as of June 24. Items being withdrawn from sale include the character editor, warp location markers (Portcrystals), Wakestones, Gaol Keys, and Rift Crystals (the game's premium currency).
According to IGN and Push Square, this move comes in preparation for the release of the Dark Arisen expansion, scheduled for October. The developer is also applying a permanent discount to the digital base game version.
Dragon's Dogma 2 faced significant backlash at launch in 2024 over offering items easily obtainable in-game as purchasable content. As reported by PC Gamer, most of the microtransactions offered no competitive advantage, but the monetization strategy generated negative reactions and affected the title's reception at the time.
