Final Fantasy Resonance demo launches today across all platforms

It's official: Final Fantasy Resonance demo is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam), according to an announcement on the PlayStation Blog during today's State of Play. The demo is free and includes the entire first chapter, with save data transferable to the full game at launch on October 22, 2026.

The announcement came with a trailer revealing Sephiroth as a playable character in the title. The Final Fantasy VII antagonist appears both in 3D-animated cutscenes and in pixel-art boss encounters, maintaining the HD-2D visual style Square Enix has chosen for the project.

Multiple gaming outlets got hands-on time with the game at recent events like Gamescom 2026. According to previews from Nintendo Life, Push Square, Eurogamer and others, Final Fantasy Resonance marks the series' first entry using the HD-2D aesthetic, transforming the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a 30 to 40-hour turn-based RPG featuring appearances from iconic characters across Final Fantasy's history.
