Rust gets apartment rentals in the Common Ground update

Rust's Common Ground update just landed, and it brings a mechanic that sounds completely out of place in a hardcore PvP sandbox: rentable apartments. According to Facepunch Studios, the new Apartment Complex monument gives players starting a fresh wipe a place to settle, with room options at different price points, from basement to penthouse. Each room type comes with its own perks, including additional storage and furnace access.

The catch is that you need to feed your rent with scrap every single day. Run short on scrap? You're evicted and everything inside gets seized. It's basically Rust simulating the brutal reality of being a broke tenant.

The Common Ground update also brings rentable shops, letting players set up their own storefronts to sell items to other players. Combined with a new clan system, Facepunch keeps expanding the ways players can interact and build economies within the game, all while keeping that core philosophy of survival where danger is always lurking around the corner.
