Baldur's Gate 3 reached its three-year anniversary, and developer Larian Studios marked the occasion by releasing a new batch of player statistics. According to Larian, the RPG has accumulated 500 million mod downloads, with 13,000 unique mods uploaded to the community.
The numbers reveal unusual player behavior. Zevlor, the Tiefling leader from Act 1, died more frequently than any other story NPC at 12.3 million deaths. Rolan, the wizard apprentice, came second with 8.6 million deaths. In a more eyebrow-raising stat, Larian reported that 9,122 players completed portions of the game in portrait mode (9:16 aspect ratio), prompting the studio to publicly question their decision-making.
Another standout finding concerns save-scumming extremes. Some players accumulated over 1,400 quicksaves in a single playthrough, while others reached 560+ manual saves. Larian joked in their announcement: "You doing okay there?"
The data also showed that more non-Dark Urge players managed to kill Alfira than Dark Urge players did. The game continues to demonstrate strong engagement metrics alongside the kind of bizarre player behavior that only RPGs seem to inspire.
