Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will not arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch. According to GameSpot, Activision is actively promoting this absence, with ads that include the line "Not on Xbox Game Pass this year" directly below the preorder option for early campaign access.
It marks the first time in two years that a mainline Call of Duty title skips the Microsoft subscription service on day one. Some players had speculated the game might eventually join the catalog months after release, but there is no confirmation of that happening.
The decision represents a significant shift in how Microsoft and Activision approach Game Pass, which has historically hosted new Call of Duty releases from launch. The game is confirmed for Xbox and PC.
