According to the PlayStation Blog, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagined take on Lara Croft's first adventure. The game's demo at Summer Game Fest 2026 took players to the Lost Valley in Peru, where they solved a modern version of the iconic cog puzzle—this time requiring two gears to be found to reconnect a mechanism that blocks a waterfall and reveals a door deeper into the hidden jungle.
Developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are bringing mechanics from the original 1996 game and Tomb Raider Anniversary (2007) into modern standards, according to Xbox Wire. The game also marks a canonical continuation of the Survivor trilogy (2013–2018), as confirmed by Jeff Adams, experience director at the studio, in an interview with Adrenaline: "The Survivor trilogy events happened, and it's the same Lara, but we're meeting her at a different point in her career." The character moves past the survival era and faces an open horizon ahead.
On design questions, Adams assured GameSpot that Lara Croft was "100% human-crafted," with no generative AI used in her creation. The studio confirmed that AI is used only for concept art and placeholder assets, not in final design. Nintendo Life confirmed the title also arrives on Switch 2 in 2027, expanding the remake's multiplatform reach.
