Sucker Punch Productions, Sony's first-party studio, laid off 26 employees, according to reporting by Aftermath. The move represents roughly 10% of the developer's workforce of approximately 230 people.
In a statement to staff shared by Aftermath, leadership said the cuts came "after carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project." The studio stated it "did not make this decision lightly" and had "worked to support our affected colleagues."
The layoffs come weeks after the studio launched Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition and the narrative expansion Echoes of Sekigahara on PlayStation 5. Sony had previously highlighted the game's financial success since its release the previous year.
Sucker Punch developed the Sly Cooper and Infamous franchises, along with the Ghost series. The studio indicated it is reorganizing in preparation for its next project, without disclosing details about the upcoming title.
