Silent Hill f producer Motoi Okamoto disclosed that the game's writing team was challenged to read between 100 and 200 books per year during development. The revelation came during a Konami lecture titled "The Art of Producing Silent Hill" at CEDEC 2026, Japan's major game developer conference.
Okamoto explained that team members "pressured each other" to maintain this reading pace. The goal was to ensure a thorough grasp of Ryukishi07's distinctive style and creative quirks, with writers expected to familiarize themselves with his entire body of work. Okamoto characterized this extensive engagement with the author's output as a matter of "basic respect."
According to Okamoto, being well-read is a critical quality for video game producers to develop, particularly on narrative-focused projects like Silent Hill f. This approach underscores the central role that storytelling plays in the game, which launched in 2024 on PS5 and PC.
