Project Helix will be a family of devices, Xbox CEO confirms

Microsoft has confirmed that Project Helix, the codename for Xbox's next generation, will not be a single device but a "family of devices," according to Xbox division head Asha Sharma.

The statement came during an interview with BBC at gamescom 2026. Sharma said the company has "been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Project Helix."

Project Helix was officially announced in March 2026 with the promise of allowing players to run PC and Xbox titles. Until now, Microsoft has kept details about the generation's final configuration close to the chest, mostly referring to the project as a new console.

The multi-device approach mirrors the current generation, which offered the Xbox Series X (more powerful and expensive) and Xbox Series S (more affordable and less capable). The company has not yet detailed what the new "family" composition for Project Helix will look like, leaving open the possibility of handheld or other configurations.
