SEGA and iam8bit have opened pre-orders for new functional Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cartridges compatible with the Mega Drive in NTSC format. Each title is part of the Sonic 35th Anniversary Legacy Cartridge Collection, a series designed for collectors, and sells separately for US$ 99.99. Orders are now available, with the first shipment expected in the third quarter of 2026.
The cartridge reissues mark celebrations of Sonic's 35th anniversary. Alongside the physical releases, SEGA also announced two retro game collections for Nintendo Switch: the Classic Sonic Collection launching in October 2026 for US$ 49.99, and a Modern Collection compiling previously released titles from the series.
Those interested in importing the cartridges should keep in mind additional international shipping costs, as the initiative is primarily aimed at overseas markets.
