Stalker 2 gets expansion and major update on August 20

GSC Game World announced that Stalker 2: Cost of Hope, the first of two planned story expansions, releases on August 20, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. According to IGN, the expansion arrives alongside the free 2.0 update for the base game.

In Cost of Hope, players return as Skif, Stalker 2's protagonist, following a mysterious PDA signal as the Zone's Duty and Freedom factions clash. GameSpot reports the expansion offers dozens of hours of content featuring new allies, enemies, weapons, and locations within two new regions.

The free 2.0 update includes a new version of Unreal Engine 5 alongside various improvements and fresh content, according to Rock Paper Shotgun. The engine overhaul addresses technical issues reported since the game's late 2024 launch.

Cost of Hope marks the first of two story DLCs confirmed for Stalker 2, which released in late 2024 for PC and Xbox consoles before arriving on PlayStation 5 later.
