CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will release in 2028. The announcement came via a video from joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski shared ahead of Gamescom 2026's opening.
According to the executive, the studio has assembled a team of more than 500 developers on the RPG. "This is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date," Nowakowski said in the message. The title will feature a vast and immersive open world, intense action-focused gameplay, and a deep, impactful narrative.
Nowakowski acknowledged the long wait ahead but urged fans for patience: "Let the team cook. It will be worth the wait." Meanwhile, the Witcher franchise will maintain momentum in the near term; The Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past will be showcased during Gamescom's Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026.
Ciri, the established character from the series, will serve as the protagonist of The Witcher 4. The game was first revealed at The Game Awards 2024. No gameplay demonstration of the sequel will appear at Gamescom, though CD Projekt Red teased "a surprise or two" during planned streams throughout the event.
