Blizzard has backed down from the most controversial changes in Diablo 4's Season of Death Awakening following nearly three weeks of community outcry. According to PC Gamer and GameSpot, a hotfix deployed on July 16 for PC (and arriving July 17 on consoles) removed the restriction on equipping only one crafted Mythic item at a time and increased drop rates for Mythic and Iconic Mythic items from the new seasonal Lair Boss.
The Mythic item changes drew some of the season's harshest criticism. While the goal was to broaden Mythic items beyond a small pool of set drops, the implementation resulted in drop rates so low that players farming for hours would find nothing. Many questioned whether the items they did find were actual upgrades for their character builds.
Dan Tanguay, design director for Diablo 4's live service, stated on the official Blizzard forum: "We've heard your feedback on Season of Death Awakening, including Mythic unique drop rates, equip limits, and more." The studio acknowledged that "not every idea lands exactly as intended."
Another controversial addition, the Mythic Upgrade function in the Horadric Cube, transforms a Unique item into an entirely different Mythic Unique rather than upgrading it, which also confused players. Blizzard will address this in Season 15, several months away. The studio also promised additional rewards in the following week, including extra payouts of Superior Lair Keys and more Mythic Tributes.
