The original trailer released a decade ago showed hundreds of players in Times Square catching Mewtwo, a promise the game had only fulfilled now. The event symbolically marked both the tenth anniversary of the augmented-reality phenomenon and the closure of a narrative arc that opened a decade ago.
The celebration is part of a series of events Pokémon Go is running during its tenth anniversary, solidifying the title as one of mobile gaming's longest-running and culturally significant releases since its 2016 launch.
