CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will get a physical edition despite PlayStation halting disc production in 2028, according to studio joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski in an interview with The Game Business.
The developer has no control over first-party policies, such as Sony's decision to end physical media manufacturing. However, Nowakowski assured that the company still plans to release a special physical version for collectors. "We don't know what's going to be the case," he said. "We know what PlayStation has announced. And we have no influence on the policies of the first parties."
The Witcher 4 is scheduled for a 2028 launch and already runs on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X according to CD Projekt Red's previous announcements. The strategy of offering physical media in an era when consoles are shifting to digital puts the developer in a similar position to other major studios maintaining boxed releases during the industry's transition.
