Ubisoft is making moves with the Far Cry franchise. According to Insider Gaming, the Kodiak project, a new open-world game, has entered development following its conceptualization phase. Vantage Studios, the team behind titles like Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six, is leading the project.
The announcement comes alongside the cancellation of the Maverick project, an extraction shooter spin-off that Ubisoft had confirmed in February. The extraction game will not move forward as originally planned.
The new Far Cry promises to be an "ambitious experience" featuring open-world design and a dynamic narrative system that would respond to player actions. The franchise has been waiting nearly five years for a new mainline entry, with Far Cry 6 being the last release in 2021.
This marks another chapter in the turbulent development history of Far Cry projects at Ubisoft, which has faced multiple cancellations and delays in recent years.
