It's official: media outlets have played Halo: Campaign Evolved, the complete remake of the first Halo built in Unreal Engine 5. According to reports from outlets including Eurogamer, PC Gamer, and Adrenaline, journalists tested two campaign levels on Xbox Series X and PC builds.
Initial impressions are divided. Some critics highlight the graphical quality and confirm the experience preserves the original's core feel, while others raise concerns about control modifications and whether Halo Studios can honor the legacy of a game that helped define the original Xbox. According to Adrenaline's preview, the demo left "more questions than answers" about the studio's work.
Microsoft announced the game in 2025, positioning it as a "faithful yet modernised" version of the original campaign. Development involves Halo Studios, with limited involvement from Bungie's original creators. The release is coming soon, with the production focusing on optimization for both console and PC platforms.
