Rockstar Games finally presented its first official and extensive look at Grand Theft Auto 6 through a Netflix event on Wednesday. The video "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" ran for 26 minutes and was captured entirely in gameplay on PlayStation 5.
The presentation showcased core elements of the game, including the character-switching system between protagonists Jason and Lucia, who can play together or cause chaos independently. According to Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, the relationship between the two is player-defined: players decide whether they are a romantic couple or merely crime partners. The relationship will require active maintenance through texts and time spent together.
The extended look revealed that GTA 6 returns to RPG-style mechanics absent since San Andreas, such as weight, exercise, and diet systems that visibly alter character appearances. Open-world activities include base-jumping, mini golf, cave diving, jet skiing, kayaking, and many others. The game also brings back the six-star wanted level system, allowing NPCs to react to weapons being carried in public, and offers multiple options for stealing vehicles.
According to Nelson in an interview with The New York Times, a full playthrough took roughly 80 hours including the main story and optional objectives with narrative weight. The Leonida map is double the size of GTA 5. Rockstar also confirmed there will be no microtransactions at launch and that no generative AI was used in development.
GTA 6 launches November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Netflix experienced traffic spikes during the premiere, and Twitch suffered a service outage shortly after the event.
